Shaquasia ‘Quay’ Brooks founded SuperMom Mission Inc., on her son’s birthday, last December. She was inspired by her own motherhood journey and her encounters with other mothers who were in need of support. So she created an organization that offers support and promotes unity. According to Quay, the non-profit “is dedicated to supporting mothers and children in need by providing essential items like diapers, wipes, formula, and school supplies. We also offer clothing for mothers, including business attire for job interviews.”
It is through her community give-back events that she directly reaches mothers from all backgrounds. With the holiday season upon us, Quay is currently gearing up to revisit her high school for a toy giveaway in collaboration with fellow non-profit Community Strong. And her biggest event yet, is an upcoming fundraising gala honoring a group of hand-picked mothers.
“SuperMom Mission aims to create unity among mothers by fostering a supportive community where mothers can connect, share their experiences, and find encouragement,” said the boy mom. “Through our give-back events, we bring mothers together, showing them they’re not alone in their challenges. By providing essentials, career support, and planning for future mental health resources, we hope to build a network where mothers can rely on one another, celebrate their strengths, and uplift each other in times of need.”
Reflecting on her own experience with motherhood, Quay called it “deeply transformative.” She added, “It taught me resilience, patience, and a new level of empathy. Along the way, I encountered other mothers in various difficult situations, and that experience made me even more grateful for the support I have. It also ignited a passion in me to help others, leading to the creation of SuperMom Mission. Through motherhood, I’ve discovered a profound purpose—to not only be the best mother I can be but to uplift and empower other mothers as well. I always say that my son saved my life.”
Thanksgiving is the opportune time to promote love and unity. And it starts at home. For Quay, it’s through simple lessons like having her son help her pack care packages. “We talk about sharing and how everyone has something they can give, even if it’s small. At this age, he is able to help me pack items for families in need, explaining in a way he can understand that we’re helping others. Through this, I encourage him to be kind and to recognize that the holiday is about togetherness, love, and gratitude. At his age, it’s about planting the seeds of kindness and showing that helping others is a part of who we are.”
Quay put her personal motherhood story in the pages of her self-published memoir, The Joy Of My Pain. The influential mom in media often receives messages from mothers praising her sharing her story.
“It’s amazing and often brings me to tears, because these messages remind me exactly why I wrote the book: to share my story honestly and to show other women that they’re not alone. Knowing it’s helping other mothers means everything to me.”
